SMTP Login Field
The SMTP Login fields allow you to provide us with a username and password we will use to verify the authentication process and access your server. If your server requires a username and password, these fields must be filled in with valid information in order for the test to be able to be performed on your server. If your server is not protected by a login, you can leave these fields blank.
__Important Security Precautions: __
Use SMTPS to guarantee security - If you are inputting a username and password while using a SMTP protocol, please keep in mind that you are sending this information over the internet unprotected. If you wish to keep this username and password from potentially being picked up by a third party, you may want to switch to a SMTPS protocol.
Create a Specific Username - you should create a new username specifically for use by our monitoring system and give that username the least amount of privileges possible on your server and website. We also recommend you use long and complex passwords for these usernames. This security recommendation is not just specific to your use of our system but just a generally recommended when assigning usernames on Internet websites and servers.
