Troubleshooting Test Error #261700 (HTTP Timed-Out)

Question / Issue: I received Test Error #261700 named "HTTP Timed-Out" (or "HTTP Reply Timed-Out"). What does this really mean?

Symptoms/Cause: This Test Error indicates that, although our test station was able to connect to your server to run its test, the test station either received a partial HTTP page or nothing at all while waiting for your server to transmit the page. We waited the entire length of the Timeout duration, which is configured inside of your monitor, but never received a completed response.

Answer / Solution: This Test Error can occur if an unrealistic Timeout was set inside of the monitor settings. We suggest using a value between five and ten seconds for the Timeout value.

Generally slow Internet speed or delays between your web hosting provider and the rest of the Internet can also cause this Test Error. If this error just began occurring, you may want to correlate the time of the error with any scheduled maintenance that your web hosting provider may have announced, as certain types of maintenance may cause localized slowness. If this error is intermittent and reoccurring, use the failure logs to see if there's any discernible pattern that is occurring. If you notice a pattern, speak to your web hosting provider to see if they can assist you in troubleshooting that issue further.

Bogged down web servers or backend databases can also be the root of this Test Error. For assistance in troubleshooting these kinds of issues further, please contact your respective service provider.

Un-optimized code on the server may also cause this Test Error. Your website's developers could assist you in troubleshooting this.
