Troubleshooting Test Error #685700 (OverTestTime)
Question / Issue: I received a Test Error #685700 named "OverTestTime" (or "Test Time Overage Notice"). What does this really mean?
Symptoms/Cause: This warning occurs when a test requires additional time to complete beyond what is allotted to the monitor. This warning will not cause the test to fail in and of itself. It is just a warning.
Answer / Solution: This error message is given as a courtesy to give you time to diagnose why your Transaction is taking so long to load or to work with us to increase the time allotted to your monitor.
Check the Test Logs to see if any additional errors occurred during the test. It is common for other errors to accompany this warning. These additional errors can aid in seeing exactly where the problem was. Test error # 750700 ("Slow Page File"), in particular, is an error that often accompanies the OverTestTime error. The Slow Page File error will provide a URL that we've detected which dramatically increased the time a step took to process.
To find out what files are taking so much time to load on your website, run an On-Demand test (by clicking the "Test" button at the bottom of the test scenario's edit form) and review the Waterfall section to see all of the files that your page is loading and the time it takes to load them.
This warning can occur due to generally slow Internet speed or delays between your web hosting provider and the rest of the Internet. If this error just began occurring, you may want to correlate the time of the error with any scheduled maintenance that your web hosting provider may have announced, as certain types of maintenance may cause localized slowness. If this error is intermittent and reoccurring, use the failure logs to see if there’s any discernible pattern that is occurring. If you notice a pattern, speak to your web hosting provider to see if they can assist you in troubleshooting that issue further.
If there is nothing abnormal that is contributing to the time it's taking your tests to complete and you’re frequently receiving this warning, please contact Help Desk for information regarding additional testing time.
